The Gran Cenote is one of the most famous cenotes in Mexico.

Gran Cenote

Tulum’s mystical Gran Cenote is one of the most popular diving spots on the Yucatan Peninsula. In the ancient Mayan culture, the caves used to play an important role during rituals: they were believed to be the gate to the spiritual underworld. Today, the Gran Cenote is known for being one of the most magnificent cave systems in the world, surrounded by exuberant jungle all around. Despite its name, the Gran Cenote consists of many caverns and open-air cenotes connected by wooden walkways. The caves are suitable for snorkelling, cave and scuba diving, although the crystalline waters will allow you to witness the underwater life even without equipment.
